Rossella Schillaci

Italian documentarian, attended “I cammelli” social video documentation school (headmaster: Daniele Segre). In 2000, she completed a Master’s program with a focus on Visual Anthropology and Documentary direction in Manchester, at the end of which she realized the documentary “Ascuntami”, later nominated and awarded at many Italian film festivals (Torino Film Festival, Biennale Giovani Artisti, Invideo). In the same year, she moved to Lisbon in order to start a collaboration as an assistant director and camera operator with Laranja Azul, a Portuguese film production company. In 2001, she shot the documentary “Euro Blows over Stromboli” for the Danish public service broadcaster. She also moved to India, where she had been involved in the project “EU-India Documentary Initiative”; thanks to this project, she realised “Living beyond borders”, a documentary to be presented in the TV Series “The space of life” broadcasted on the national Indian networks and on Community Channel. In 2007 she’s also involved in the project “Alba” (a series of nine documentaries directed by Salvo Cucca and produced by Palomar Endemol, Rome, about the arbëreshe culture) with the documentary movie “Vjesh / Canto” for which she’s awarded at the Jean Rouch Film Festival, Paris. She had worked as a researcher and documentarian for the Ethnography and Social History Archive, which allowed her to publish several collections of ethnographic documentaries as well as a series of anthropologic researches. Later on, she worked as an assistant director in both Rai and Mediaset production. In 2009 she was selected to be part of the Berlinale Talent Campus.
